PRE-COMPLIANCE TESTING
Knowing how the product performs before going into costly accredited tests
Pre-compliance testing is simply testing as close as possible to a standardized test, where simple non-calibrated equipment can be used to evaluate from an educated viewpoint whether a product is ready for formal compliance testing.
Vibration, shock, environment and EMC are types of tests that can approximated with simple test rigs that can cost 2-10% the price of calibrated testing equipment (excluding qualified personnel).
Vibration testing: When vibrating products for maritime and offshore industry, normal shaker tables are often not large enough for the size and weight. The larger sit/stand chair shown below weighs more than 5x the limit of typical shakers, but still have to pass compliance tests such as the IACS E10.
The shaker table shown is a simplified vibration table with adjustable amplitude based on product weight, and a 2-100 Hz range.
Cheap 1000Hz accelerometers are used to register the various measuring points on the table and chair, which plugs into a custom built LabVIEW logger for reporting.
